What Readers Are Saying

Dianna Whitmore More Than Sisters” provides a rare glimpse into the moments when childhood innocence becomes tainted by the darker world at large. Told from the point of view of three sisters who have survived the tragic loss of both mother and father, their bonds with each other prove strong enough to carry them through the trials of life. This book touches on grief, dreams realized and lost, as well as the stigma of child abuse in a manner refreshingly non-graphic and free of the shock value often employed. I enjoyed this book immensely as a vehicle taking the reader back to a simpler time showing the values of faith, family and community.
Ann Marie Bryan Refreshing and inspirational! W Mason Dunn dives into the lives of three sisters, Olivia, Gayle, and Dani, as they face adverse situations. Although the heart-warming read is fictional, the situations they face are real. The author does an amazing job of conveying all the emotions of the characters. They easily draw you in, and before you know it, you will be flipping the pages and cheering them along. This book was well written and deeply edifying. I cannot wait to see what else W Mason Dunn has in store. I am hoping for a series so that I can see what happens next in the lives of these amazing sisters. Kudos to the author for this wonderful read!
Patricia Green-Powell Impressive, fascinating and completely inspiring, this outstanding novel, More Than Sisters, will encourage you to develop relationships with family, particularly, sisters. You will thoroughly enjoy the profound wisdom and valuable insight that only this author, W. Mason Dunn can deliver. Having been raised in a family of eleven children; five sisters and five brothers, I am the ninth girl in the birth order. I know all to well the dynamics of different personalities, unique characters, togetherness, and true grit. W. Mason Dunn paints a vivid picture and brings to life the innermost spotlight and mirrors of the soul of a family of three sisters, Olivia, Gayle and Dani. The relationship of these sisters plays essential roles in the development of this poignant novel. Reading the situations can bring a bit of joy, pain, and frustrations that most clearly identifies the life of sisters. While each character possesses their respective unique personality, I most vehemently identified with the sister, Olivia, as she is a strong and confident woman; her voice is confident, her walk is confident, her relationship is confident, and everything about her is confident; a mirror into my own soul. Perhaps, "A family that prays together stays together" as reference by man religious traditions, is most relevant in this incredible novel, More Than Sister. A must read!
Joseph Burgess This story is a great story. It is the American story, one that has dreams, pain, joy, overcoming obstacles while maintaining your family and faith. This is really true when you consider that the African-American Woman has been the backbone in the African-American Community and has been asked in repeated generations to fulfill roles not traditional to them. These sacrifices allowed future generations of African-American children to have opportunities that world around them may not have had available to them. The issues discussed in this book are ones that are relevant to our students and their families. People will fail you and it’s imperative you find the people around you to help when you’re hurting. This journey, for anyone is not meant to be alone.
